Tamika Williams was born in Atlanta, GA on October 21, 1987, to mother Lenora Williams and Father Johnny Cloud. She lost her eyesight in 2003 due to the Stevens-Johnson Syndrome which is a rare skin and mucus membrane disorder caused by an allergic reaction to the medication. After relocating to Mobile Alabama, Tamika joined the National Federation of the Blind in 2006 because of several friends inviting her to a local chapter meeting where she met many people who were “changing what it meant to be blind”. She then went on to graduate from Baker High School in 2007, attended the Louisiana Center for the Blind in 2008, and graduated from the University of South Alabama in 2016 in which she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services. Tamika is now a mommy of two beautiful girls Azarriah Tilley and Maziah Tilley and enjoys spending time with family and friends. Tamika's mantra is to “Live, Love, and Laugh each day”.

 

Tamika’s leadership journey, she has served in several capacities including NFB of Alabama student division president in 2008. More recently, she was elected in 2015 to serve as the Mobile Chapter president and continues to do so. In, 2018, she was elected to serve as the 1 st Vice President of the NFB of Alabama affiliate until the present. Tamika believes that every blind person can achieve any dream they so desire with the combination of proper training, support, opportunities, and determination. Tamika looks forward to making contributions that will foster change in the perceptions of blindness.
